Goal 2: The Arts.

Posted by CIFAdmin on Monday, February 07, 2005 (PST)
Develop the arts as an economic resource. South Lincoln County has arts and cultural activities that support our tourism industry, attract retirees, and inspire our children. One strategy would be recruiting and helping to expand graphic arts businesses, such as computer animation businesses aimed at national and global multimedia markets. The work of talented Pacific Northwest artists should also be marketed to the rest of world, not just to local residents and visitors, through the Internet and other national and international marketing opportunities.
Strategy 2.1 Work with the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) to expand training and marketing
Our thriving arts community is a resource that can be used to improve the local economy. Helping local artists reach national and international markets through the Internet and developing local talent to meet new market opportunities, including computer animation business opportunities, should boost the local economy as well as the artists. An active local chapter of OCCA could bolster arts offerings in South County–from visual to performing arts.

Strategy 2.2 Facilitate the sharing of skills, talents, and tools between generations.
We have a wealth of knowledge among our middle and senior aged residents. They may be willing to share this with our school-aged residents in a coordinated program.

Strategy 2.3 Pursue the location of a nonprofit gallery for local artists work
Display of local art in post offices can also give wide exposure to the work of South County artists.

Strategy 2.4 Explore the establishment of an annual South County arts festival, and “themed” shows
An example might be fisheries–art relating to our local fisheries, or art shows relating to annual festivals in the South County, such as the Mushroom Festival. The arts can be another strategy to bring visitors here to stay and spend their dollars in South County.

Strategy 2.5 Develop an “arts plan” for South Lincoln County.
A plan could chart the way for a wide variety of arts initiatives in our community, and allow us to track our progress.
