Goal 4: Education.

Posted by CIFAdmin on Monday, February 07, 2005 (PST)
Support and expand local educational services for the community by supporting educational infrastructure.  Strong advocacy for adequate resources must ensure that South Lincoln County educational service providers (including the Lincoln County School District, Oregon Coast Community College, and home schooling groups) are able to properly prepare our residents to meet current and future workforce requirements.
Strategy 4.1 Promote the importance that education has in expanding and adding to the quality of
Assist the local school district and community college in anticipating and meeting the community’s educational, technical and cultural enhancement needs. Championing the part education plays in economic development is critically important.

Strategy 4.2 Support the location and establishment of dedicated facilities for OCCC
Creating a campus center with equipped facilities will support quality instruction and training and facilitate economic development, thus advancing the quality of life here in South Lincoln County. The absence of permanent facilities here has hampered the college’s ability to meet the needs of local residents.

Strategy 4.3 Support the effort of the Ford Family Foundation’s Rural Community School Partnership
This grant has considerable potential to engage students in career paths and learning and is deserving of volunteer and financial support. In particular, this program will offer South County students the ability to consider various careers through career education.

Strategy 4.4 Support efforts to secure grant funding for South County school projects.
Grants have paid for programs the school district can no longer fund due tobudget cutting at the state level.  Any effort to access funds for worthwhile projects should be supported.

Strategy 4.5 Pursue programs that will expose K-12 students to careers.
Helping students envision their futures and giving them options to pursue will enable them to become productive workers and assist with their pursuit of careers when they complete their educational goals.
